3076 Spaarndammerstraat, 2005

District Westerpark / Amsterdam

Surrounded by trees, lawns with bushes and bikes, the locals meet up for small talk. The Spaarndammer district is a typical working-class area where life takes place in the streets. The social space is becoming more and more cluttered by a diversity of different architectural styles, stores and artworks. It was our goal to use what is already there and to make the common unusual. We aim for interventions in the public space that are modest but do have a strong identity. Specific alterations suitable for the people and location, allowing this space to become a special place for the neighbourhood.
