For the annual exhibition Inside Design Studio Makkink & Bey was asked to furnish a room in the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam. Jurgen Bey, who's a tutor at the Royal College of Art in London, invited four of his former pupils to exhibit their personal view on the hotel room: room number 3, by: Clémence Seilles, Nina Mrsnik, So Hyun Kim and Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad. ROOM 3 This room in the Lloyd Hotel was divided in five zones. Upon entering room 3, you walk into the first zone by Clémence Seillés. She sketches her furniture in 3D, working with second hand objects and finally guests can complete the work in use with their personal belongings. So Hyun Kim, in zone 2, scouts the city for wishes that are granted by design. While showering and using her products, the hotel guest can read the wishes they stem from on the shower curtain. Future scenarios are being explored in Nina Mrsniks' drawings and animation in zone 4, sketching out possible solutions for problems to come. Finally we enter the last zone by Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad. Habitual realities are fixed and framed in one photo by the photographer, leaving the viewer in unease with this repetition of quotidian city-life. Bahbak carries this tension through in his balancing chairs and table.
