3010 Princessehof, 1998

ism Ester van der Wiel, Leeuwarden

When visiting the Princessehof, looking at the collection of ceramics, the craftsmanship displayed is stricking. The amount of ornaments and precision in detailing are the visible evidence of the attention and love that went into making these items. The garden of the Princessehof is currently walled, a hortus conclusus. The new garden we propose will become a hortus conclusus that shows the history attached to the house, the garden and the inhabitants. Because the ceramic collection is key to the current value of the place, the studio investigates how this material can be used in the garden in a modern way.
