Hotels and hotel rooms need to suggest a certain domesticity for temporary residents to feel at home. These environments are usually fitted with a standardised interior which is being repeated in every room. Studio Makkink & Bey has amplified the differences between the four rooms in order to give each room a specific character. Each theme tries to investigate a certain aspect of residing. The interventions are kept very modest, so it's easily understood that the room functions as a hotel room. The designs give a small hint of a world with a different order, but still have a homely character.
