In several crate cabinet designs by Studio Makkink & Bey, a shipping crate is transformed into a cabinet; a by-product transformed into a finished piece of furniture. The crates hereby take on a more autonomous role as an interior and gird a bigger space into a smaller domestic space; a soft secretaire. The crate doors shield the user from sights and sounds, allowing greater concentration which is emphasized with the soft brown layer of textile particles furnishing the surface of the crate by use of a technique called flocking.
